Cybersecurity Experts: Government’s Role in Cybersecurity Needs Expansion

Experts from across industry and academia told a house subcommittee today that the government’s role in cybersecurity research, development, and education needs to be expanded and improved.

Cybersecurity experts told the House Science and Technology Committee’s Research and Science Education Subcommittee that government-funded cybersecurity R&D programs and interface with the private sector with respect to those projects should be enhanced. Gates: DoD is Beefing Up Cybersecurity Efforts

The Defense Department is beefing up cybersecurity capabilities, according to Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ testimony before the Senate Appropriations Committee’s Defense Subcommittee.

Gates said cybersecurity must be a priority for the DoD, and his budget request reflects that.

NH Man Made $112,000 in Bank-Account Hacking Scheme

Alexey Mineev, a  Hampton, N.H., resident, has pleaded guilty to fraud charges for his role in a scheme to empty brokerage accounts by installing Trojan keystroke-monitoring software on victims’ computers.
