Emerging Trend: Government Contractor’s Buying Cybersecurity Firms
Since the new administration took office in January of this year, an emerging trend of large government contractors acquiring cybersecurity firms has come to light. In case you missed it, here is a quick recap of top cyber firm acquisitions over the last few months.
- April: Harris Corporation acquires Chantilly, Virginia-based Crucial Security, Inc. Crucial Security Inc. sells offensive and defensive IT solutions.
- April: Paradigm Holding’s, Inc. requests merger with Trinity Information Management Services. Trinity IMS provides cyber forensics services with specialization in information assurance (IA).
- May: Acting Senior Director for Cyberspace under the NSC and the NEC, Melissa Hathaway, releases the 60-Day Cyberspace Review.
- June: Boeing Company buys eXMeritus. Hardware and software maker eXMeritus provides secure data sharing solutions for federal law enforcement clients.
- June: Raytheon Company announces at the Paris International Air Show that cybersecurity will be “one of the major growth areas for us” in the coming years, according to Raytheon’s Steven Hawkins.
- June: QinetiQ North America acquirers Cyveillence, Inc. Cyveillence sells internet monitoring and intelligence analysis solutions to commercial clients.
- The Wall Street Journal predicts that Northrop Grumman Corporation with its specialization in cybersecurity will gain from the new administration’s focus on the topic.
- July: Man Tech International Corporation launches Man Tech Cyber Solutions.
- July: Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) buys Atlan, Inc. Headquartered in McLean, Virginia, Atlan is a cybersecurity product testing firm.
