Hathaway Urges Government to ‘Keep Pace with Cybersecurity’

In an article for Information Security Magazine, Melissa Hathaway, currently of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center, highlighted the centrality of the Internet and computer networks to U.S. national infrastructure.

Hathaway’s contributions to moving cybersecurity forward resulted in her being awarded the Security 7 Award.

The article, titled “Government Must Keep Pace with Cybersecurity Threats,” examined the role technology plays in U.S. economic interests and the need to better secure data.

Hathaway discussed the multiple “fronts” foreign players are using to target U.S. businesses. These include industrial espionage and attacking networks.

While Hathaway believes recent developments in placing cybersecurity at the forefront of national security, she was adamant this is “just the beginning of the beginning.”
