FBI Wants Data Breach Law

An FBI representative said Wednesday a federal law requiring businesses to report data breaches would help the bureau  combat cyber crime.

The sharing of such information would enable police organizations to connect attacks and defeat them.

Jeff Troy, the head of the Cyber Criminal Section at the FBI, said such a law “would help us tremendously.” He also said when considering cybersecurity, companies and organizations need to look beyond themselves and recognize that it is a challenge everyone faces.

In sharing data with law enforcement, companies can help to make themselves and other organizations more secure, as most attacks are used against multiple companies.
