Most Data Centers Not Ready for Cyber Attack

AFCOM, a national association for data centers recently released a survey in which the majority of respondents do not appear to be adequately prepared for targeted cyber attack. The survey was sent to over 400 university, government and civilian data centers throughout the world.

The report found that “most of its member clients aren’t prepared nearly well enough for a sophisticated cyber attacker- or even if an unsophisticated hacker decides to target them.” Over 60 percent of respondents viewed cyber terrorism as a threat that needed to be addressed. However, only one quarter have established policies and procedures to handle cyber terrorism. The survey also found that cloud computing is not as widely used, with only approximately 15 percent of the surveyed data centers using a cloud computing model.
