Increased Attacks on Websites in India

There has been an increase in cyber attacks against a number of websites in India according to recent estimates. Of particular concern are the high number of attacks against Indian government websites.

From January to June 2009, over 3,000 websites in India were attacked at some point. According to India’s CERT, the number of attacks on government websites has also seen a significant increase in the past few years. Targets have included a website for India’s railways and an Indian banking site. The banking site was hacked and used to distribute malware to visitors.
