First Federal-State Cyber Partnership

Secretary Janet Napolitano and Governor Jennifer Granholm of Michigan announced yesterday the launch of the first of its kind federal-state partnership for cyber security. The partnership will deploy the Einstein 1 program across Michigan’s networks to enhance cyber security in the state.

Secretary Napolitano said “This first of its kind federal-state partnership will not only enhance our capabilities to defend Michigan from cyber threats, it will also strengthen our ability to protect networks and cyber assets nationwide”, according to a DHS press release.

Governor Granholm said “It will enable greater federal and state coordination to promote mutual cybersecurity interests and, if successful, will inform the efforts of state governments to enhance their own cybersecurity efforts.”

The Einstein 1 technology is an automated collection and analysis of computer security information. It is designed to aid cyber security professionals to identify and fight cyber attacks and intrusions. As part of this federal-state partnership, US CERT will identify and address potential threats on Michigan’s cyber networks.
