Jim Lewis Weighs in on current and future trends in cyber security
Jim Lewis of the Center for Security and International Studies recently discussed some of the current and future trends in cyber security with the Council on Foreign Relations. During the interview, Lewis discussed recent reports of US drone vulnerabilities and how he thinks the Obama administration is doing in advancing cyber security in the US and abroad.
Among the several highlights of the interview, Lewis discussed his views on recent reports that Iraqi insurgents were able to intercept and view video streams from US drones operating in Iraq. Not only was Lewis not surprised by this revelation, he believes that the US should have assumed long ago that our opponents would be able to exploit this vulnerability in our system.
Lewis also thinks that the administration is moving forward in the right direction, both domestically and in the field of international cooperation. However, he believes there is still a long way to go. A central problem in moving towards greater international consensus and cooperation is that there is not a common lexicon and each side wants different things from the discussions.
Nevertheless, Lewis does hold some measure of hope as the administration looks to focus more of the area of cyber security.
