In the past year, 25 million new strains of malware have been developed according to a recent report by PandaLabs. This represents a significant increase in new strains of malware; prior to this year on 15 million strains had been developed in the past 20 years.
The largest increases in malware development was the development of Trojans and and false security software. According to the report, the past year also saw a resurgence of more “traditional” viruses such as the Conficker worm.
The report also highlights the increased use of social networking sites and directing victims to infected websites to disseminate malware. Taiwan had the highest percentage of infections while Sweden was the lowest.
