Cyber Spies Attempt to Target Government Contractors
Government contractors often work on a variety of classified or sensitive projects for the US government. As such, they serve as a prime target for foreign espionage agencies seeking to gain information on defense technologies and programs.
Unidentified hackers have begun targeting government contractors through corrupted PDF files. The attachments are designed to look as though they come from the Department of Defense and were emailed out last week to a variety of contractors. The emails reference an upcoming conference that will take place in Las Vegas in March.
The corrupted attachments attempts to exploit a recently patched vulnerability in Adobe Reader. It allows the hackers to gain backdoor access to the system through a server based in Taiwan.
