Easy to Use Cyber Crime Kits Aid Growth of Phishing Attacks

The proliferation of ‘do-it-yourself’ kits has extended into cyber crime, according to an article on USAToday.com. The number of phishing attacks in recent years has risen and security researchers claim that the availability of do-it-yourself cyber crime kits are feeding this boom.

While the kits have existed for a number of years, the kits are now much easier to use and significantly cheaper, which greatly enhances their marketability.

Gunter Ollman, senior researcher at security firm Damballa, said “If you know how to download music or a movie you have the necessary experience to begin using one of these kits.”

The software goes for anywhere between $400 and $800. The sale of such software is legal, making it difficult for cyber police to control.
