UAE Offers Cybersecurity Degrees

Within the past year, the United States has witnessed an explosion of advanced degree offerings for cybersecurity. Instead of working towards a degree in information assurance, students may now choose to major in cybersecurity or attain a graduate degree in the area.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is also moving towards building a competent and specialized cybersecurity workforce. Zayed University (ZU), which offers a Masters of Science in Information Technology, with a concentration in Cyber Security Digital Forensics, is the first of its kind in the UAE. The fifteen graduates, all members of the Abu Dhabi Police, will all work towards combating cyber crime in the UAE.

The program initially consisted of four courses on cybersecurity, but was expanded into a masters program as demand grew.

ZU assistant provost Dr. Chet Jblonski said “This professional and specialized masters program aims to serve the nation’s need to combat digital crime.”

“Today we are facing technological crime. I took this masters program to serve my country,” said Abdullah Nasser, one of the graduates.
