Beijing Responds to Hacking Allegations

Recently, researchers at the University of Toronto accused the Chinese of carrying out cyber espionage against India and the Dalai Llama. A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that China is committed to fighting cyber crime and questioned the motives of the researchers who released the report “Shadows in the Cloud.”

“China firmly opposes any kind of cyber crime, including cyber attacks. The cyber attack is an international issue requiring the cooperation and joint efforts of the international community,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu. “I don’t know what evidence these people have, or what their motives are.”

Jiang also said that the Chinese would be happy to investigate the allegations, which the researchers said could not be tied to any foreign government, if they were provided with evidence.

“Our policy is very clear. We resolutely oppose all Internet crime, including hacking,” Jiang said.
