CyberSecurity Malaysia plans to increase its efforts at raising awareness among Malaysian Internet users regarding the risks of cyberspace and tactics to mitigate those risks, according to The Star. Chief executive officer at CyberSecurity Malaysia, Lt. Col. Husin Jazri (retired), says that as more citizens in Malaysia become Internet users, increasing awareness among this growing number of users is vital for the future.
By the end of 2009, around 65 percent of Malaysians were Internet users, and the number continues to grow, according to Husin.
“We must make sure that our connected citizens are knowledgeable enough and well prepared to face any negative elements in the cyberworld,” Husin said at the CyberSAFE Digital Content Competition.
CyberSAFE, which stands for Cyber Security Awareness For Everyone, is Malaysia’s main educational effort to promote awareness among the general populace regarding cyber threats and good cyber hygiene.
The competition was meant to encourage local development of content promoting cyber safety, particularly on social networks.
