Poor Cybersecurity Hinders Bruneians from Using E-Gov Services

Nearly 70 percent of Bruneians cite poor cybersecurity as one of the reasons they are not using e-government services in the sultanate, according to a nationwide survey released Monday.

The Brunei Times reports the majority of the 1,500 respondents said the risks associated with access to sensitive personal details by non-authorized individuals and cyber crimes may deter them from using e-government services in the southeastern Asian country. Only 11 percent of the survey participants said insufficient cybersecurity was not a factor that stops them from using e-government services.

Fifty three percent of respondents said not knowing how to use the e-government services is another barrier that hinders them from using the services, and nearly half said they did not know whether traditional methods were more efficient.

Other concerns Bruneians raise include slow and unreliable Internet connectivity, outdated and inaccurate information on e-government websites, and lack of training of staff and customers.
