Job Prospects Good for Cyber Pros
With the increasing number of cyber criminals threatening to run havoc on U.S. computer systems and steal intellectual property and vital information, the demand for those who safeguard valuable assets and critical infrastructure has been growing at record-speed.
According to Wanted Technologies, an employment-market information company, cybersecurity job openings across the country went up from 32,000 to 40,000 in the first three months of the year, a 25 percent increase.
Among companies seeking cyber pros is Google, who advertised more than a dozen security positions on its job website and LinkedIn for several weeks. In an email to Journal Gazette, Google spokesman Jay Nancarrow said the company has always focused on looking for high-quality security talent.
“We definitely would like to grow our team to help us with a variety of important and challenging opportunities,” he said.
Other web and technology companies, including Amazon, eBay and Microsoft, are also currently advertising dozens of security-related jobs on their websites, according to Journal Gazette.
For the public sector, Market Research Media has estimated the federal government will spend $55 billion in cyber-security investments in the next five years, including the recruitment of thousands of security professionals.
