Lawyers in India Get Cyber Training

Public prosecutors in Mumbai recently received training from the cyber crime investigation cell (CCIC) of the Mumbai police on cyber crime issues. Each of the prosecutors involved in the training are dealing with cyber crime cases.

The training focused largely on cyber crime and the information technology (IT) Act. Despite the implementation of the Act, most cyber crime cases do not even appear before the courts, with many victims unwilling to file cases. The training was designed to help the prosecutors understand ways to work towards a conviction in cyber crime cases.

“We conducted this specialised training session for public prosecutors with the help of cyber experts and officers from the CCIC,” Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police, said. “Public prosecutors were made aware of the ever changing aspects of cyber crime. Hopefully, it will help them tackle cyber crime cases in a much better manner.”

The prosecutors who attended the session found it to be very helpful as well, according to Roy.

“The response from the public prosecutors was tremendous. The 10 lawyers who attended the session said that the session had been very helpful,” he said. “Now they know a lot more about the various aspects of cyber crime, and it will help them in dealing with cyber crime cases in courts.”

The rate of cyber crime in India is steadily increasing as well.

“More and more people are getting involved in online pornography and online cheating cases,” Roy said. “We are keeping a close watch on such activities.”
