Japanese Police Arrest Alleged Spammers

Police in Japan have arrested two men  suspected of being involved in an alleged Hentai-themed malware scam campaign. Oka Akira, 27, from Tokyo and an unnamed 20-year-old are accused of defrauding tens of thousands of yen from a minority of their 5,000 targets.

The pair stand accused of posting a fake version of a Hentai game onto file sharing websites. The alleged game installer required users to enter a series of personal information, which was subsequently posted to the Internet along with the user’s IP address and web history.

Targets then received an email offering to remove the information from the Internet for a fee. Both suspects will face charges under Japan’s computer fraud law, as no law exists for distribution of a computer virus in Japan.
