AMERICAN SYSTEMS Taps Ray Rafaels to Lead IMIA Business

Raymond “Ray” Rafaels has been named AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ vice president of Identity Management and Information Assurance, and will in that capacity lead the company’s IMIA business and help develop the cybersecurity systems engineering business division.

President and CEO William C. Hoover noted the battlefield of the future will be in cyberspace, “making it imperative that federal agencies be equipped with the most cutting-edge information assurance and ID management solutions available.”

“Ray’s experience leading the design and deployment of comprehensive network and cybersecurity services for intelligence, military and civilian agencies will ensure that our customers can protect the critical infrastructure on which our nation’s economy and security depend,” he said.

Rafaels’ most recent position entailed running the information assurance cybersecurity services business at ManTech International. He directed IA projects with the Missile Defense Agency, U.S. government intelligence agencies, Air Force, Navy, and Defense Information Systems Agency.

Earlier in his career, Rafaels held leadership positions at OPNET Technologies, Hughes Network Systems, Hitachi Data Systems, and Computer Associates. He also managed classified IT development programs with the CIA and within government-contractor companies.

Ray earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business and engineering administration from The George Washington University. He also is a Cisco-certified network associate and a project management professional.
