U.S. Looks to Develop Early Warning System for Cyber Attacks Targeting Companies
The federal government is looking to begin a program to detect cyber attacks targeting the private sector and government agencies operating critical infrastructure, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The program, called “Perfect Citizen,” would be run by the National Security Agency and would use sensors on computer networks used by critical infrastructure to detect activity which may indicate a pending attack. However, the NSA would not constantly monitor the entire system, sources told WSJ.
Some privacy advocates claim Perfect Citizen is an effort by the NSA to become involved in domestic affairs, though some say that the program is essential to securing the U.S. infrastructure and that the NSA has the best cyber capabilities in the country.
