Researchers Find Cyber Criminals Infecting 1 in 10

Researchers at AVG Technologies have discovered a network of 1.2 million malware-infected computers are currently under the control of cyber criminals who used commercial attack software.

Following a two-month long study, AVG determined that the Eleonore exploit toolkit used by the cyber criminals were having a 10 percent success rate in infecting the 12 million visitors to the infected websites. The researchers looked at 165 domains exploited by cyber criminals.

“The accessibility and sophistication of easy-to-use cyber criminal toolkits proves that cyber gangs are raising the bar to monetize their criminal activities,” said Yuval Ben-Itzhak, senior vice president, AVG Technologies. “That is why it’s more important than ever for families, corporations and other computer users to protect their computers from being targeted by this kind of increasingly popular cyber attacks.”
