Cyber Terror Threat on Par with CBRN Weapons Says Punjab Director General of Police

The threat of cyber terrorism is as serious a threat as that posed by chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) weapons, according to Punjab Director General of Police P.S.Gill.
Fighting cyber terrorism and cyber crime should be at the top of the list of threats facing countries around the world, he said at the Cyber and Computer Crime investigation for police officers workshop organized by the Department of Forensic Science at Punjabi University over the weekend. In India, cyber criminals and terrorists have started using computer technology to evade surveillance used by intelligence and police units, Gill said.
Organized criminal elements are also beginning to recruit technically-savvy individuals to launch cyber attacks, he added. Also, three major difficulties in combating cyber crime include lack of cooperation from ISPs, slowness in government responses and the field of cyber forensics being behind the advances in cyber crime technology.
