HP to Buy Cybersecurity Firm

Hewlett-Packard Co. has announced plans to purchase Fortify Software, a cybersecurity firm. The purchase is designed to provide HP with an enhanced cybersecurity capability.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Fortify, a privately held company, is based in San Mateo, Calif. The company works with companies to identify and patch security flaws in IT networks. HP and Fortify have been marketing software security technology together starting last year.

For the time being, Fortify will operate as a separate business prior to integration into HP’s software division.
