4chan Launches Cyber Attacks in Protest of Anti-Piracy Efforts
Members of 4chan this past weekend launched DDoS attacks against the Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America in retaliation for hiring a software firm to act as cyber hitmen to take down websites hosting illegal movies, Panda Security reports.
Aiplex Software was recently chosen by MPAA to pursue sites that illegally shared copyrighted movies. Aiplex Director Girish Kuman told Sydney Morning Herald that his company had been hired to launch cyber attacks against sites that did not respond to copyright infringement notices sent by MPAA.
MPAA and Aiplex Software confirmed to BBC News their sites had been hit. In addition to targeting the two industry groups, attacks were also launched on Aiplex’s website on Saturday, according to security firm Sophos.
The DDoS attacks resulted in 37 service interruptions and 1 hour and 37 minutes of downtime for MPAA, and 24 separate down-times for the RIAA by Sunday, Panda reported. 4chan users also tried to Google bomb the phrase “ROBERT PISANO MPAA CEO ARRESTED FOR CHILD MOLESTATION!,” the security firm added.
4chan users also zoned in on the British Phonographic Industry with a DDoS attack that occurred at 4 p.m. GMT yesterday. Sophos reported that although the BPI site was down for a shorter period of time, it seems as if it had prepared for the cyber assaults.

Piracy doesn’t cause the MPAA to lose money, it just causes their already obscene profits to be a little less.
Sure it’s illegal, but it shouldn’t be the MPAA doing this. It should be the movie makers themselves if they really have a problem with it.

Yes, we here at ebaumsworld.com have very strong opinions against the anti-piracy movements. We feel the “attacks” were justified in order to voice our side, and thus we take responsibility for these actions. In no way was the website 4chan.org involved.
