Self-proclaimed Algerian Hackers Paralyze Vietnamese Website
A popular Vietnamese website that often publishes controversial news and criticizes China was hacked yesterday, according to Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
VietnamNet, an online newspaper, was attacked 3 a.m. Monday. Visitors to the site encountered several messages saying “Server is too busy” and “Hacked By Team Mosta Algerian Hacker.”
“I have no answer for you why VietnamNet was hacked,” Nguyen Anh Tuan, editor in chief of the website, told dpa. “We need analysis to identify who the attackers are.”
In recent months, hackers have attacked dozens of Vietnamese websites that have criticized China’s behavior in the South China Sea, dpa reported.
VietnamNet is one of few news media that publishes stories relating to sensitive topics such as the bauxite mining in the Central Highlands, and the border dispute between China and Vietnam in the South China Sea, according to dpa.
