Australia, UK Team to Battle Cyber Warfare

Australia and U.K have announced partnership to meet challenges in  cyberspace to address the growing rate of cyber attacks and crimes committed via the web, according to a news release.

The two countries have also agreed to develop global standards for cyberspace. The partnership provides for cooperation between agencies and departments dealing with cybersecurity in both nations.

Earlier, last year, the U.K government had indicated increased spending for cyber defense, and the defense minister also emphasized the need to develop offensive capabilities to deal with cyber threats.

The joint partnership was announced during the ministerial consultations between the two countries. The partnership assumes significance in the wake of the recent OECD report and observations made by Department of Defense on digital warfare.

While the OECD report described full-scale cyber war as an unlikely event, it warned countries against possibility of a catastrophe from a single cyber attack on a key installation.
