Iranian Cyber Army Hacks Voice of America

The Voice of America website has been attacked by Iranian hackers who defaced the homepage and disabled the organization’s online news service to more than 30 countries, according to NewZimbabwe.com.

Claiming to be the Iranian Cyber Army, the hackers defaced VOA’s main website and left a message addressed to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton saying, “Mrs. Clinton, do you want to hear the voice of oppressed nations will (sic) from heart of USA? Islamic world doesn’t believe USA trickery.”

The  hackers called on the United States to “stop interfering in Islamic countries” and listed 90 other VOA websites they claimed had been compromised as well, according to The Washington Times.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Golnaz Esfandiari tweeted the group had struck against VOA’s Persian-language site, Nextgov’s Aliya Sternstein reported.

“Website of VOA Persian Service was Hacked today by #Iran ‘s Cyber army #Iranelection,” Esfandiari tweeted approximately 5:30 p.m. EST.

The Iranian Cyber Army has previously taken credit for the 2009 hacking of Twitter, the defacing of Chinese search engine Baidu and the cyber attack against TechCrunch’s European website.
