Hacker Crackdown in Spain Brings Down Suspected Members of Anonymous

Spanish police today arrested three suspected members of Anonymous on charges of cyber attacking targets including Sony, governments, businesses and financial institutions, Reuters reports.

The suspects had been involved in the recent denial-of-service attack on Sony’s PlayStation online gaming store, as well as other cyber attacks on Spanish banks and Italian energy group Enel, the police said in a statement obtained by Reuters.

Describing the loose coalition of hackers, the police said Anonymous is structured in independent cells and makes thousands of simultaneous attacks using zombie computers around the world.

“This is why NATO considers them a threat to the military alliance,” the police said. “They are even capable of collapsing a country’s administrative structure.”

The police launched their investigation last October, after hackers crippled the Spanish Ministry of Culture’s website to protest Spanish legislation increasing punishments for illegal downloads, The New York Times reported.

  1. It is easy to learn about secrets that are meant to be kept from us. It is another task entirely to act bravely to bring justice to those who persecute us. These individuals are such heroes. Let’s not allow their arrest to go in vain. When one of us falls, ten more will take their place until this entire planet is aware of the atrocities that take place here.

  2. Maybe they should kill them instead of punishment. Why? Because the rest of the hackers will see their partner get killed for hacking and if they don’t stop hacking stuff same thing going to happen to them.
