Microsoft and Casio Enter Patent Agreement

Microsoft Corp. and Casio Computer Co. Ltd. have entered a broad, multi-year patent cross-licensing agreement that will provide Casio’s customers with patent coverage for Linux use on specific Casio devices.

The agreement is an extension of a long-standing relationship between the two companies. Microsoft software can be found on a variety of Casio products including industrial handheld terminals and business information systems.

“We’re pleased to reach an agreement and to see continued recognition of the value of our patent portfolio, particularly as it relates to operating systems,” said Horacio Gutierrez, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel of Intellectual Property Group at Microsoft.
