ITT Corp. announced today that it has developed a commercial-based smartphone and tablet designed for use by the Defense Department. Each item will be equipped with ITT’s National Security Agency-certified AARIS-457 network processor, which is approved for secret and below usages.
“ITT’s hardware crypto solution gives our customers a communication capability and security that is proven, trusted and flexible to meet the challenge of their demanding environment,” said Ken Peterman, president of communication and force protection systems at ITT.
The company also introduced a software application for rugged PDA, smartphones and PCs which can provide situational awareness information. ITT said the RO-mobile awareness platform is the first software application to integrate regional position location information, text messaging and radio remote control.
“When connected to the satellite based RO tactical radio, RO-MAP allows users within 100 and 250 miles to have a common operating picture similar to the command center,” the release said. “RO-MAP automatically receives the position location information from other beyond line of sight on-the-move users. The position location information is then placed on a zoomable satellite image.”
