IBM Breaks Industry Ground by Integrating Windows Apps into System Mainframe

IBM has developed a technology that will allow users of its zEnterpriseSystem to integrate Microsoft Windows applications into the system’s mainframe environment, starting Dec. 16. 

A company release said that bringing together mainframe and distributed computing is an industry first.

The release said the technology will enable clients with Windows applications who are connected to mainframe data to be integrated and consolidated on the same system.

It will allow the consolidation and centralized management of Windows applications on x86-based IBM System x servers and be available for both of the zEnterprise systems.

The company noted that this hybrid capability had been available for:

• managing IBM’s Power-based workloads with operating system support for AIX and 
• System x-based workloads with Linux
• a business analytics solution and a multi-functional appliance for System Z
