In-Q-Tel Partnership Developing Advanced Military Battery Tech
In-Q-Tel is partnering with Contour Energy Systems to continue developing advanced portable power solutions, In-Q-Tel announced Tuesday.
In-Q-Tel said Contour’s battery developments apply to current application power requirements at many federal agencies. IQT also said Contour’s battery technologies apply to military devices such as GPS receivers, radios, night vision goggles, thermal imagers, monitoring and sensing systems and digital messaging devices.
Contour’s “work in carbon-fluoride battery chemistry shows great promise in delivering significant improvements in energy density, power density and reliability across a wide range of operating environments, said William Strecker, In-Q-Tel executive vice president and chief technology officer.
IQT said Contour’s battery system:
- Has twice the energy density of other battery technology types, including sulfur dioxide or manganese dioxide
- Customizes energy balance or power densities to meet application requirements
- Packs more power into a given space without additional weight
- Operates in a range of temperatures
