Special Ops Seeking Mid-Range, Precision Missile System

The U.S. Special Operations Command is seeking a medium-range guided missile system, according to a request for information posted Monday.

USSOCOM wants to purchase the systems to provide precision engagement capabilities to U.S. special forces against enemy forces.

USSOCOM said it wants the weapons system to be portable and lightweight.

USSOCOM said the weapon should be an all-weather, medium-range guided missile capable of day and night strike missions.

The system must also be capable of engaging at an objective range of 328 feet and a threshold capability range between 3 and 62 miles.

The systems must include systems for:

  • GPS and inertial navigation
  • semi-active laser terminal homing guidance
  • millimeter wave and synthetic aperture radar
  • LiDAR and infrared imaging

Contractors responding to the RFI should detail their the system, its engagement capabilities, lethality against intended targets, estimated cost and a technology readiness assessment.

The government plans to conduct testing and demonstration firings within 18 months of contract award.  

The selected contractor will perform work at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.

USSOCOM will accept responses until March 30.
