Vivek Kundra Gives Preview of Social Government

Former Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra joined social cloud company Salesforce in January and is now championing a move into social government, according to NextGov. 

Kundra, now Salesforce’s executive vice president of emerging markets, said cloud computing is no longer a debate.

Kundra said most are moving toward a cloud infrastructure. 

Kundra said the next step is to envision and leverage technology by creating an environment where governments post computer code for custom applications.

The applications could process healthcare data and map potholes. 

The national, sate and local government app sharing would be akin to Salesforce’s AppExchange.

Kundra said that both private and public sector are unprepared for transforming themselves for the social era.

The government still has a ways to go before it has a network of apps to exchange and a way for citizens to more regularly interact with government, Kundra said.. 

He hopes the government will eventually be able to offer apps and capabilities where citizens can monitor what streets are being plowed during a snow storm. 

Kundra suggested agencies could gather feedback from citizens, similar to sites like Yelp, in order to spot performance failures or disconnects between the agency’s vision and the contractors.
