The Army Software Marketplace currently offers 12 applications compatible with iPhone and iPad devices.
The application store prototype is part of the Army’s Connecting Soldiers to Digital Apps Initiative.
The Army originally launched the initiative in 2010 to test the effectiveness of mobile applications in the field and during training, according to Information Week.
Android-based applications will also be available soon, according to Information Week.
The Army hopes the CSDA community will continue to submit applications to increase collaboration and deliver prototypes in short release cycles.
Some of the current apps in the prototype store include the Army’s initial entry training guide, the Soldiers Blue Book, Army Values, the Army Social Media Handbook and the Developing a Performance Work Statement.
The Army recently announced it has made new network technology acquisition a top priority and plans to launch two new communications systems in the coming months.
