NASA has launched an Oriole rocket produced by Kratos Defense & Security Solutions Inc.’s rocket support services business unit.
The company NASA launched five rockets total from Wallops Flight Facility in Wallops Island, Va. as part of a high-altitude jet stream experiment.
Once launched, the rockets released chemical tracers which resembled while clouds in order to gather information about the jet stream.
The jet stream is located 60 to 65 miles above earth.
To date, NASA has purchased six Oriole rocket systems for the program.
The company recently won a prime spot on a $40 million Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command contract to provide engineering and technical services for command, control, communications, computers and intelligence programs.
