Ball Aerospace Gives NASA Its Solar Mission Plan

Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. has proposed a solar electric propulsion mission to NASA under a contract awarded in September 2011, the company announced Monday.

ATK also helped develop the plans for demonstrating the solar technologies and infrastructure require to sustain human space exploration.

Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman also received contracts to develop their own plans for solar missions.

At the time, NASA said the companies should identify technology gaps and research technical solutions for using solar technology to transport humans into space.

Ball Aerospace is also helping Northrop construct the James Webb Space Telescope, the successor to the Hubble telescope.
