The Los Angeles Community College District has chosen Microsoft to provide cloud-based online communication and collaboration services to the district, Information Week reports.
Microsoft will deploy its Live@edu online suite to more than 250,000 faculty and student members in that district, Paul McDougall writes.
The agreement is the result of a three-year evaluation process and will provide the college community with hosted versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Exchange, Outlook and SkyDrive online storage, the report details.
LACCD Chief Information Officer Jorge Mata told McDougall that the college wanted a standard method for communication on campus.
Mata said much of campus already uses Exchange and Outlook, which would make it easier to integrate Live@edu with existing software, cloud tools and applications.
The suite is additionally accessible on platforms for Android and Apple devices, the report said.
