GSA Starting FedRAMP Certification For Cloud Providers

The General Services Administration will begin approving security certification applications from private cloud solutions providers, the agency announced Wednesday.

Federal agencies will assess security of cloud products and services through the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP.

GSA said the program is intended to eliminate duplication, generate savings and correlate with the government’s cloud first initiative.

The agency is also developing security standards for cloud services and believes FedRAMP can increase cloud migration through identifying obstructions of federal agencies against cloud adoption.

GSA said it has also been negotiating the details to arrange blanket purchase agreements for the federal government.
