Boeing has delivered a GPS satellite to the Air Force for three-dimensional positioning and navigation, the company announced Monday.
The company is contracted to provide the branch with 12 GPS IIF satellites, two of which are in orbit and another scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2012.
United Launch Alliance, a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin, will provide one of its Delta IV rockets for the launch.
Seven more satellites are currently in production at a satellite development center in El Segundo, Calif.
GPS IIF satellites are designed to provide position and timing information in all weather conditions, use atomic clock technology and a civilian signal to aid in commercial aviation and safety-of-life applications.
