The National Institute of Standards and Technology has hosted the first workshop in ushering in a new cybersecurity center near the agency’ Gaithersburg, Md. headquarters.
Donna Dodson, head of NIST’s computer division and acting director of the center, wrote in a blog post that the June 26 workshop included representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Leon Rodriguez, director of HHS’ civil rights office, and Joy Pritts, chief privacy officer at the Office of the Coordinator for Health Information Technology, addressed challenges of securing electronic health information.
The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence is a private-public center for collaboration in designing, implementation, testing and demonstrating cybersecurity solutions for the financial, communications, healthcare and physical infrastructure sectors.
Dodson wrote that the center will have a computing facility for NIST researchers to collaborate with users and vendors of IT products and services.
