Harris to Demo Anti-IED Robot; Bill Gattle Comments

Harris Corp. has developed a new robotic system for first responders and technicians to disarm improvised explosive devices, the company announced Monday.
The company will demonstrate RedHawk at the AUVSI Unmanned Systems North America conference in Las Vegas, scheduled for Monday through Thursday.
“Our goal is to push this technology forward so that one day no one will ever have to walk up to an explosive device in order to neutralize it,” said Bill Gattle, president of aerospace systems within the government communications systems unit.
Gattle also said RedHawk preserves forensic evidence and provides users feedback, with the goal of having operators pick out individual wires in an IED.
Unmanned ground vehicle operators helped design RedHawk, which has wireless haptic controllers, precision manipulators, UGVs and accessories for retrofitting on vehicles already in the field.
