Two satellites built by Northrop Grumman and Raytheon participated in a recent U.S. Missile Defense Agency test of Standard Missile-3, Northrop announced Wednesday.
Northrop is the prime contractor for the Space Tracking and Surveillance System and Raytheon makes the infrared sensor payload.
Raytheon is the prime contractor for the SM-3 program.
This test was the fourth instance where the STSS satellites delivered tracking data as MDA launched the missile from an Aegis destroyer, said David Bloodgood, STSS program manager for Northrop.
Northrop said two goals of the test in Hawaii were to collect tracking data for the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System and form a stereo track from that data.
The second goal was to simulate a remote engagement authorized interceptor launch based on that stereo track and route that track to an Aegis simulation lab.
