General Atomics Demos Predator Radar for Navy Anti-Drug Missions; Linden Blue Comments

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. demonstrated an updated multi-mode radar designed to help the Navy carry out anti-piracy and counter-narcotics missions, the company announced Wednesday.
The Lynx Multi-mode Radar was tested on a Predator B RPA surrogate during the Navy’s Experiment Trident Warrior 2012 event in Southern California in July.
Linden Blue, president of the company’s reconnaissance systems group, said the test was intended to demonstrate the radar’s maritime wide area search mode.
That mode is designed to transmit images and video data from the RPA, the company said.
According to the company, the radar detected and provided images of small vessels such as fast boats, sail boats, and fishing boats.
During the MWAS test, the radar operated during a night surveillance flight with the goal of detecting, classifying and identifying maritime targets in different weather conditions.
GA-ASI’s Claw sensor payload operator control software guided the radar toward targets in coordination with the Navy’s AquaQuIPS ship track data fusion engine.
