The Department of the Interior released a request for information on Friday regarding acquisition for a mobile device management product which allows remote update, monitoring, and termination of personnel mobile devices abroad, reports Joseph Marks for NextGov.
The requested product needs to be compatible with Apple, Android, BlackBerry and Windows mobile operating systems. The RFI also stated that the agency prefers cloud-based tools with the product.
According to NextGov, the Government Accountability Office issued a study in 2011 citing that the department inconsistently applied security controls for prevention, limitation, and detection of unauthorized entry into their networks.
Interior has realized the vulnerability of mobile electronic devices against malevolent personalities, organized crime, and hostile nation‐state activities. A compromised device abroad can infiltrate other portions of the department’s network and be a liability to the organization, according to the RFI.
