China, U.S. Hope to Curb Cyberwar, Intellectual Property Theft

Hillary Clinton

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi had a discussion Wednesday in which they discussed cooperating on cybersecurity and intellectual property issues.

National Journal reports Clinton said that intellectual property, commercial data and national-security information theft are problems that face both the U.S. and China.

Despite claims that China is the “most active and persistent perpetrators” of cyberespionage, Yang said that the country is “also a victim.”

Clinton said cyberattacks are becoming a big concern for the private and public sector worldwide and U.S.-China cooperation would be a vital step in network security.
