The Defense Information Systems Agency plans to migrate the management of the Global Information Grid to the cloud from a net-centric model, Fierce Government IT reports.
Published August 2, the GIG strategic plan said DISA’s short-term plan includes creating a public-private cloud environment on the GIG secret-level networks or DoD Platforms, migrating of end-user applications to the cloud, and using virtual desktops.
DISA also said that in the long-term, DoD Platforms will be hosted in a government-managed hybrid cloud.
Another GIG plan, David Perrera wrote, is using a container technology for secured mobile access to enable bring-your-own-device systems.
DISA will also adopt a three-layer technical architecture composed of common user services, platform services, and infrastructure services.
