DRS Technologies to Develop Improved Night Observation Device for Navy; Todd Stirtzinger Comments

DRS Technologies Inc. recently won a contract to provide improved night vision equipment to the U.S. Navy, the company announced Monday.

DRS said its Imaging and Targeting Solutions Co. received the award from the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division to develop improved night observation device Block III systems.

The INOD Block III is a long-range clip-on thermal sight used on sniper weapons for surveillance and targeting.

DRS will support military forces during missions through the development of technology that provides more discriminate targeting from greater stand-off ranges, according to Todd Stirtzinger, ITS president.

The INOD Block III development will deliver smaller, lighter and lower-power thermal imaging devices to help improve observation and targeting capabilities.
