SAIC Enlists Eurotech to Help Make Train Location System; Judith Decker Comments

Italy-based embedded technology firm Eurotech will provide SAIC Inc. a platform for a train location system, which SAIC says is for the Federal Railroad Administration and railroad industry.

According to SAIC, Eurotech will deliver the first few units during the second half of 2012 and deliveries will reach full operational pace in 2013.

SAIC was looking for a rugged hardware platform that operates in harsh environments, said Judith Decker, vice president of the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance group.

During the first phase of the project, Eurotech will develop a rugged sub-system based on a single board computer, which SAIC says was certified last year as one of two hardware reference designs for train control applications.

Eurotech’s ISIS ICE is designed for fanless diskless operation, wireless communications and includes GPS technology.
