The Defense Acquisition Board has given the U.S. Army limited approval to implement an upgrade to its tactical communications network infrastructure provided by General Dynamics C4 Systems, the Army announced Monday.
Warrior Information Network-Tactical Increment 2 will enter production and fielding to support the Army’s capability set fielding and network modernization strategy, with the Army set to give Capability Set 13 to two units brigade combat teams in the 10th Mountain Division.
Development work on Capability Set 14 is part of the Army’s effort to delivery network systems as an integrated communications package for an entire brigade combat team, connecting a static tactical operations center to mobile commanders and soldiers.
In May, the Army tested WIN-T Increment 2 during a network integration evaluation with General Dynamics competing for a potential $2.8 billion contract to provide the second phase of the network.
